Student Committees - What on Earth Do You Do?
It's a fair question to ask. It can seem that some people take up leadership positions in name but really do very little with the job that they're given. Study is obviously very important to all of us but we're also striving to help make the school a better place to be.
So here we are... The St Peter's College Committees.
Liturgy - it's all in the name. We meet together to plan liturgies and organise who is going to be involved in each aspect of a particular Mass or liturgical event.
Caritas - is a Catholic charity. The committee plans fundraising events that help to raise money for Caritas. The main event of the year is Survive-a-Slum... read and see more of that at the Caritas page soon!
Service - the service committee sits right alongside Caritas. We organise teams to take part in local events, such as Relay for Life, as well as many other service-based events.
Welfare - looking out for the needs of students at St Peter's. We're involved in the Peer Mediation programme and work towards bringing harmony in tense situations around the place.
Environment - no, no, we're not the Green Party but we do care about the place where we spend the majority of our time as teenagers. We're seeking to make St Peter's more sustainable and to reduce our carbon footprint.
Sport - mmmm, we do sport stuff! Organising support, umpires and referees for exchanges and a heap of other stuff.
Cultural - performing arts night, vocal band performances, international day, performances for assembly, primary school tours and other performance based cultural things.
Literary - this description definitely needs writing by someone who knows how to write! More later in 2009.
Social - the mid year Senior Charity Social is our main thing. We discuss and put forward suggestions, such as beneficiaries of the several thousand dollars raised at the event. We also organise sound, dj, band, food and decorations for the night.
Common Room - trying our best to keep the Common Room open by being organised with cleaning rosters and tidyness.
